When the foundation is completed, sometimes a foundation inspection is done by the city or county and the title insurance company - if financing is involved. The inspection applies to all foundations regardless of who performs the foundation work. Any subsequent work cannot proceed until the inspection is completed, as the foundation will be covered up so inspection would be difficult.
Today we observed the finished slab, including anchor bolt locations and the broom finished. We prefer a broom finish in areas that will see water. Not only does it provide an additional layer of traction, it also has a nice aesthetic appearance.
Its equally important to call out and detail locations for plumbing fixtures and showers. This allows the foundation crew to easily locate the depression, so that drains and finishes can be coordinate.
Locating the depression also allows for a "zero" step shower.
All of our home designs include a minimal step between the foundation and patio slabs. This helps insure water will flow away from the house and provides an extra layer of safety.
